V D Satheesan Chosen as Kerala Chief Minister After UDF Election Victory

The Congress leadership on Thursday announced senior party leader V D Satheesan as the next Chief Minister of Kerala, bringing an end to nearly two weeks of speculation following the United Democratic Front’s (UDF) victory in the state Assembly elections.

The decision was formally announced in New Delhi by All India Congress Committee (AICC) Kerala in-charge Deepa Dasmunshi, who confirmed that Satheesan had been selected as the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and the alliance’s chief ministerial choice.

The announcement paves the way for the formation of a new UDF-led government in Kerala, with the swearing-in ceremony expected to take place early next week.

According to Venugopal, the choice of Satheesan was made unanimously following extensive consultations within the party.

Reacting to the announcement, V D Satheesan described the role as a major responsibility entrusted to him by both the Congress party and the people of Kerala.

He was reportedly in Thiruvananthapuram with his family when the official announcement was made by the party leadership in Delhi.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph said the party’s central leadership had officially communicated the decision to the state unit.
